I just wanted to let everyone know, I just
got some bad news about a very good friend and past racer of
the CLS and BCRA member, Dallen McKinney. He took a bad flip
at Madera Speedway this past weekend on the fast asphalt
surface during the main event and has suffered multiple
injuries from hitting the cage 1st into the wall. He's in an
induced coma at The Fresno Community Hospital in ICU and is
still evaluating all injuries to his Broken neck, 2 shoulder
blades, collar bone, and most important the swelling of the
brain and spinal cord. Please spend a few minutes to say a
few prayers for him and his family. I truly believe he
is a racer at hart and he needs all of our thoughts and
prayer to make it a full recovery.
Thanks,
Brent Sexton -- CLS

Spot
to be Awarded in Driver Talent Search
FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE (SEPTEMBER 17, 2008)
CONTACT:
Mike Maurini,
317.270.8723, Mike@AutosportsMedia.com
SACRAMENTO
,
California
- The national talent search for the driver development program
conducted by Ron Sutton's Winner's Circle launches today.
Supporting sponsors, K&N Filters, Lucas Oil & Sunoco
Racing Fuels will be awarding six spots in the 2008 Shoot-Out to
young, talented drivers from various forms of motorsports,
with one spot going to a dirt racer with a Micro Sprint, Mini Sprint,
TQ or Dirt Kart racing background.
Ron
Sutton's Winner's Circle (RSWC) is an established talent scout and
development program, providing long term, comprehensive racing and
career development for up and coming drivers focused on NASCAR
careers. RSWC drivers are raced, coached, groomed, trained and molded,
within a professional racing environment, into what top pro teams look
for when hiring drivers.
K&N
Filters, Lucas Oil & Sunoco Racing Fuels have stepped up to award
a position in the Shoot-Out to one participant from Micro Sprint, Mini
Sprint, TQ or Dirt Kart racing. The Shoot-Out application process is
open to all drivers 11 to 19 years of age, with race winning
backgrounds.
RSWC
has seen great drivers come from the Dirt Kart and Micro Sprint ranks
including RSWC drivers Ryan Kaplan and Nik
Romano. Kaplan enjoyed years of race wins and championships in Outlaw
Dirt Karts and Midgets before being selected by RSWC. Since then,
Kaplan has focused on pavement events where he won USAC Midgets races
and the annual Earls Fast Qualifier award. Kaplan then moved to Sprint
Cars, winning on dirt and pavement, as well as winning the 2007 USAC
Western States Sprint Car Championship.
In
their pursuit to develop drivers that win in all forms of racing, RSWC
placed Kaplan with a top road racing team and coaches for a double
event weekend. In a F2000
car at Laguna Seca, Ryan qualified on pole
and won in just his second road race. For 2008, Kaplan is racing
NASCAR Late Model Stock Cars with several top five results, including
a second, on his development path to a NASCAR career.
In
Micro Sprints, Nik Romano won races and
rookie of the year honors. RSWC placed him in road racing for just one
season, where he won poles & races.
From this point forward, RSWC is focusing Romano only on oval
tracks putting him in Midgets and Stock Cars on his career development
path to NASCAR.
The
Shoot-Out process is designed to identify talented, young, up and
coming drivers from across the
United States
and
Canada
with the talent, potential and commitment to achieve a driving career
in NASCAR. RSWC is
currently accepting resumes through October 15th, 2008.
RSWC expects to receive over 600 resumes, as they have in the
past, and narrow it down to approximately 30 to 40 drivers to test.
The Shoot-Out is conducted over two 3-day weekends in early
November, in identical race cars, on an asphalt oval track in
Northern California
.
Sutton
has said,
“We’re not looking for a number … We are looking for young
talent that has real potential to go all the way to NASCAR Sprint
Cup.” Day
one of the Shoot-Out includes a seminar for parents and drivers,
"The Real World Good, Bad & Ugly of Driver Career
Development" and a training course for drivers on driving
strategies, expectations and terminology.
Three separate tests for the young drivers include body fat
fitness, a written problem solving test and psychological analysis.
Days
two and three are on track, with drivers getting five 20-lap sessions
on track, with coaching, to show their talent. Judges
evaluate the drivers on 45 points, with the key areas being coachability,
accurate feedback, focus, motivation, training retention,
communication skills, personality, aggressiveness, learning rate,
confidence and lap times.
The
talented drivers selected for the RSWC development program through the
Shoot-Out will have a training program designed specifically for their
age, experience and development stage, then be placed with a top team
in the racing series that fits best.
The
career development program consists of 12 veteran driver coaches, over
20 classroom topics and eight organizations fielding 24 race teams,
all dedicated to develop drivers in the RSWC program. The teams are a
balance of Open Wheel and Stock Car oval track race teams ... with
Road Racing added … to develop highly versatile and accomplished
winning drivers.
In
the USAC series, RSWC races drivers as young as 12 years old in Junior
Ford Focus Midgets with 125 hp. At
180 hp, the Ford Focus Midgets are a great training series for ages 14
and up. “Full” Midgets with 380 hp and 800 hp Sprint Cars are for
drivers 16 plus. Skip
Barber Race Series or SCCA Formula Fords and F2000 cars are used to
develop young drivers’ road racing skills early, at ages from 12 to
17. NASCAR Late Model Stock Cars and Grand National Stock Cars are the
final stepping stones in the RSWC program,
with only the star level talented Drivers being introduced to top
NASCAR Cup Teams.
Young
winning drivers ages 11 to 19, and their parents, are encouraged to
get all the information and answers to common questions from the
web-site, then submit their resume in time
to be considered. The web-site is www.Winners-Circle-Racing.com

CNYMS
event at Glen
Ridge
Rescheduled for Saturday October 25, 2008
Sodus
,
NY
– Mother Nature has not
been kind to the traveling teams on the A-Verdi Storage
Containers / CNYMS tour in 2008. As many tracks have
experienced throughout the season a dark cloud appeared over
top of the New Glen Ridge Speedway on Friday evening which in
the end would wash out the second visit of the lightning fast
Mini Sprints.
The
teams took to the track for a hot laps session and “just
plain blistered the place” according to series owner Mike
Emhof. “I expected a super fast paced program with the
excellent condition of the racing surface prior to the
rain”!
Glen
Ridge
and CNYMS management worked out details to bring the A-Verdi
Storage Containers / CNYMS touring mini sprints back on
Saturday afternoon October 25, 2008. “I would look for
a 20 plus car program when the teams return to
Glen
Ridge
this fall” stated owner Mike Emhof
The
next show on the 2008 A-Verdi Storage Containers / CNYMS tour
will be with Vern Wasson’s program on the High banks of
Woodhull Raceway this Saturday night August 23rd.

Granite
State Completes Season at Canaan & Bear Ridge
9-20-08
The
club made their last stop of the 2008 point season at Canaan
Speedway Friday night Sept.19th. The weather turned colder but
the action got hotter as the night went on. We had one of our
best showings with 7 (500) & 15 (600). The 500’s started
the night off with Lacey, Mike, Tim, & Josh racing side by
side for several laps, at times you could have throw a blanket
over all of them. When the checkered fell; Lacey Hanson was 1st,
Mike Willis JR. 2nd, Josh Boissoneau 3rd, Tim Whitney 4th, John
Chestnut 5th, and Jason Wyman 6th (with motor problems). Dick
Bonner came out to drive the #55 for Don Collins but was not
able to make the heat. The 600’s 1st heat rolled off with Dave
Morgan running hard & fast for the top spot, while Luke
& Josh were hot on his heels waiting to strike. In the end
Dave Morgan won heat #1 followed by Luke Greenwood in 2nd, Josh
Boissoneau 3rd, Terry Reil 4th (driving the #75d), C.J. Seufert
5th, Troy Comeau 6th, Paul Huard 7th with motor problems. The
second heat saw Brian Gray turning some great laps while Matt,
Richard & Arthur battled hard for several laps to see who
would be second. When the checkered flag waved Brian Gray took
1st, Matt Robie 2nd, Richard Crooker 3rd, Arthur LeBlanc 4th,
Christine Boesch 5th, & Don Collins 6th.
The
500 feature took to the track, bad luck started for Lacey Hanson
with a broken shock at the drop of the green, as the race
continued Mike, Josh, & Tim would battle for the top spot.
On lap 19 Josh & Tim swapped spots giving Mike a little gap
that they could not close, in the end Mike Willis JR. took home
the top spot, Tim Whitney edged out Josh for 2nd, Josh
Boissoneau finished 3rd, John Chestnut 4th, Dick Bonner 5th,
Lacey Hanson 6th, Jason Wyman in the #97 Will Clack Machine was
not able to start the feature because of motor problems. The
600’s took to the track & the action heated up the cold
night, when the green flag waved it was instantly 3 & 4
abreast. The 1st yellow came out for Richard Crooker with a
radiator problem, when racing resumed Barry Coolen drove his car
down pit road with smoke coming out of the left rear of the car.
The next yellow was brought out when Dave Morgan spun in between
turns 3 & 4 collecting Josh Boissoneau in a thunderes
impact. Josh was able to continue but Dave’s car was down for
the count, while all that was going on there was a battle royal
going on for the top spot between Brian Gray, Matt Robie, &
Luke Greenwood they traded the lead several times, split slower
traffic, running clean & hard. The racing went back to green
but only lasted for a few laps because Troy Comeau spun in turn
2, while relining up Josh Boissoneau drove down pit road with
minor injuries from the crash with Dave Morgan. The green waved
for the last time (we hoped), the action continued with 3 &
4 abreast racing and had a moment were at the time Brian Gray
was leading Luke & Matt in lap traffic and they made it 5
wide in turn 4. When lap 20 came it still was a three way battle
until turn 4 and that’s were Luke Greenwood edge out Brian for
the victory, Brian Gray took 2nd, Matt Robie 3rd, Arthur LeBlanc
4th, Troy Comeau 5th, Christine Boesch 6th, C.J. Seufert 7th,
Don Collins 8th, Josh Boissoneau 9th, Terry Reil 10th, Dave
Morgan 11th, Barry Coolen 12th, Richard Crooker 13th.
Saturday
at Bear Ridge Speedway Sept. 20th, 2008 the club pulled in to
run the last race of the “08” season, not for points but for
CASH. The 500’s took to the track and saw green to checkered
with Lacey Hanson taking the $100 top price, Tim Whitney took
$75 for the second spot and Billy Lussier finished third and
took home $50 filling in for Josh Boissoneau in the #98 car.
Rounding out the night was the 600 division with Matt Robie
taking home the top price of $150, John Moses in second taking
$100 and Troy Boissoneau back in the seat of the #77 finishing
third and taking home $75.
I
would like to thank all of the racers and the volunteers that
attended this year and help make it a great 2008 season.
Hope to see everyone at the banquet and the general meeting
October 19th & 20th.

Mid
America Outlaw 1200 Sprint Series
MAOSS
would like to announce some news on a driver of ours, in hope
to help in encourage young and old to always follow your dream
no matter what.
Chaz
Gregory is the driver of Mini Sprint #2c, and a senior at
Tremont, IL High School. Recently Chaz was chosen to be a
representative for
the national Sprint Car and Midget Magazine Stay in School
program. This program will allow Chaz to take his
sprint car into schools and speak to thousands of elementary
students. Chaz has tailored the program to add a
personal touch. Surprising to most, Chaz had a stroke at
birth, resulting in mild right hemiplegic
(mild paralysis of his right side). Despite the
diagnosis, he has never used the disability as a crutch and
has always believed he could do anything he put his mind to.
This program and racing has allowed Chaz to take
something that was once thought to be a burden and use
it as a testimony to other youth.
His assembly "Breaking the Obstacles" relays
the importance of staying in school, setting goals, and living
your dreams no matter the obstacles. Chaz will use
the excitement of racing (in particular, his sprint car
onsite) to stimulate the kids to hear his message. Through
sharing his personal trials and triumphs, Chaz will instill in
the youth, that through determination, positive
attitude, and faith that you can accomplish
anything you put your mind too, as he has. Phil
4:13
Chaz is MAOSS 2008 Rookie of the year. Our club is
very proud of him and wishes him the best of luck in his
future.

Mini Sprint racing is one of the fastest growing segments of
open wheel racing. The class which features open wheel
